Eagles Bring Down Giants
The West Coast Eagles added to the Greater Western Sydney (GWS) Giants' frustrating season with a surprise victory over the wounded Giants. The win breaks a streak of six losses for the Eagles, but more importantly they competed with desperation for the ball for most of the game, which is something they have previously lacked. The Giants, who had finals ambitions, are now in a perilous position with games against the Brisbane Lions and the Melbourne Demons as they limp towards their mid-season bye. Bailey J Williams played one of his best games for the Eagles.
Dockers Final Flurry Flattens Hawks
This was a match of two contenders. The Fremantle Dockers sitting second on the ladder and the Hawthorn Hawks sitting third. Hawthorn had played four games in the past nineteen days and the Dockers had played the same number but in just eighteen days. With a heavy schedule, both teams were expected to slug it out like two heavy weights. However, they both started with a frenzy of blows, aiming for an early knockout. Hawthorn's 'wizard' Nick Watson nipped in for a goal in less than two minutes. Patrick Voss replied with a goal for the Dockers at the restart.
Wounded Tigers Win In Perth
The Richmond Tigers with seventeen players on their roster injured, won their first game of the year against fellow cellar dwellers the West Coast Eagles, in a tense game where the lead changed fourteen times. In a strange twist, it was around this time last year that the Tigers with two wins under their belt, defeated the winless Eagles. This year the winless Tigers defeated the Eagles who already have notched two wins. The Eagles designated this game as their fortieth anniversary game, as it is forty years since they played their first AFL game, which was also against the Tigers.
Dockers Sink Blues in Six Minutes
The Fremantle Dockers blew away the dogged Carlton Blues in a classy six-and-a-half minutes of play at the start of the final quarter, to win what was an otherwise even contest. The Dockers led for of the whole match, but couldn't put the determined Blues away, until Shai Bolton turned on the after burners to set up the win. The Carlton Blues have struggled so far this season, with only one victory against the lowly Richmond Tigers in Round One.
Dockers Despatch Eagles
The Fremantle Dockers did what they had to do to grind down the hard working West Coast Eagles and win what was an unusually bruise-free Western Derby. The Eagles had their chances early but couldn't finish in front of goals, whereas the Dockers were slick and professional around the ground and kicked goals when they had to. The Eagles seemed determined to match the Dockers physically and in fact won more contested possessions than the Dockers. The Dockers' tactic was to spread across the ground whenever they had the ball to negate the Eagles' focus on physical contests.
Hawks One Point Winners in Easter Monday Classic
Easter Monday once again delivered, with Geelong entering the annual clash holding a commanding 13–3 record over Hawthorn since the fixture became a permanent part of the AFL calendar. As has so often been the case, this Round 4, 2026 encounter proved another bruising, high‑quality contest. Notably Patrick Dangerfield was unavailable due to injury and Hawthorn played two debutantes, Perez and Dalton.
Swans Smash Eagles
In one of the most one-sided games seen at Optus Stadium, the Sydney Swans made an emphatic announcement that they are genuine contenders for the 2026 Premiership. The statement was made at the expense of the West Coast Eagles who could barely manage a whimper as the Swans ripped the game apart. The Eagles were buoyant before the game, having won consecutive matches against the North Melbourne Kangaroos and Port Adelaide Power. It appeared they had finally moved on from the disaster of the last four seasons, where they had won a paltry total of just eleven games.
Comeback Eagles Stop Kangaroos
The West Coast Eagles broke a fourteen game losing streak to suggest that the bad times of the past four years may be banished. They did it at the expense of a determined North Melbourne Kangaroos outfit, who were fresh from a victory over the Port Adelaide Power. The Eagles obviously learnt from the belting handed to them by the Gold Coast Suns in the last round, and were desperate not to submit to another beating.
