'Six Together' - The Official Anthem
'Six Together' is the stunning new official anthem for The Six Nations series, which perfectly encapsulates the sport's stature and mood through this new sonic identity. Emotive, proud, beautiful and powerful in equal measure, it's the ideal musical accompaniment to this glamorous sport and will be used by the BBC and other international broadcasters to front the coverage as well as the live games from February 2010 onwards.
The theme was created by The Howling Wolf Group, who consulted with Six Nations Rugby Limited over a two year period, with a view to launching a powerful and enduring musical theme for the sport. Working closely with The Six Nations' Chief Executive and Commercial Manager, Arnon Woolfson of The Howling Wolf Group developed the framework and brief for the project, before starting on the creative execution.
Bringing in an array of established international producers, Howling Wolf Productions delivered several top class demos to senior management in order for them to choose one fitting anthem to represent the sporting body. Once this one piece was selected, executive producer, Arnon Woolfson worked over several months with the chosen composer and business partner Matt Clifford, to complete the final recording and production of 'Six Together'. The concept behind this theme was to use the inspirational and unique instruments of each participating nation to identify, celebrate and unite them in this great competition. Rugby is a sport that is deeply rooted in the traditions and passions of each nation that plays it. It is where the true warrior spirit lives on and where sportsmanship and courage are still valued qualities.
In the theme each nation is represented by an instrument or sound that evokes its homeland. For Wales it's the Celtic Harp, Ireland has the Uilleann Pipes, Scotland has the bagpipes, France has the accordion, England has a boy's Cathedral Choir and Italy has the mandolin. They each have a featured, 'cameo' appearance, and then play all together as the music climaxes. It's hard to imagine a more fitting anthem than 'Six Together'.
