John Paczkowski has been poking fun at the tech industry and the personalities that drive it since 1997. From 1999 to 2007, he wrote the award-winning tech news Web log Good Morning Silicon Valley for the San Jose Mercury News, Silicon Valley’s daily newspaper. He also managed Knight Ridder’s SiliconValley.com, a technology news and opinion Web site honored with back-to-back EPpy awards from Editor and Publisher in 2003 and 2004.

He is a graduate of Brown University.

Here is a statement of my ethics and coverage policies. It is more than most of you want to know, but in the age of suspicion of the media, I am laying it all out.

I should disclose right at the start that seven years ago, at my request, a former employee of Digiscents procured for me an “iSmell” t-shirt which I wore to the gym for a number of years.

Beyond that, there is little else to report.

I own stock in only one company–a small New England bank whose involvement in the technology world extends no further than its ATMs. I also have a 401K plan and like many 401K plans, its holdings are managed without my guidance. My plan includes no technology specific funds or indexes, although it might from time to time include technology stocks. But I do not have any knowledge about when they buy and sell any shares.

I don’t accept paid speaking engagements. Nor do I accept gifts or products from the companies I cover. I don’t serve as a consultant to any companies.

Beyond these policies, I also abide by the Dow Jones Code of Conduct, which can be found here.
