The journalism industry is at a crossroads.

The way news gets to the public is everchanging, and those breaking into the business now have to learn not only how to report and write, but also how to communicate across multiple platforms. If that sounds like what you want to do, you've come to the right place.

For more than 100 years, The Hatchet has covered GW, Foggy Bottom and Washington D.C. It is editorially and financially independent, and has been named the best non-daily collegiate newspaper in the nation twice in the last ten years.

If you want to learn and experience how journalistic tradition and cutting-edge reporting come together, The Hatchet is for you.

Most professional journalists start by working at a college newspaper, and there is no better place to begin your career than at The Hatchet. Our reporters are covering everything from the courts to Congress, and they are learning real-world lessons not taught in any classroom. Our alumni include five Pulitzer Prize winners, along with writers at The Washington Post and The New York Times.

The bulk of our reporters are freshmen and sophomores, so anyone can make a difference! No prior experience is required, and each reporter is assigned to an editor who serves as a guide and teaches them the trade.

Of course, there's much more to a newspaper staff than just reporters – if you're interested or experienced in photojournalism, graphic design, audio and video production, or web design and development, we've got a spot for you. Browse this website to find out how you can best fit in at The Hatchet.

Please, keep in touch. E-mail us, stop by the townhouse, follow us on Twitter – or all of the above. Even if you decide this isn't your calling, be sure to read every Monday and Thursday in print and online at www.gwhatchet.com. Good luck, and make the most of your time here!
