iptables changes not having any effect [closed]

Question

I was attempting to interrupt a TCP connection on my system, and was altering iptables rules using the iptables command.

Nothing I did seemed to have any effect, though. Inserting and deleting rules did not change the behaviour of my networking.

What could be the reason for the inability to influence my firewall behaviour?

Turns out my network was using IPv6 by default, so I needed to use the ip6tables command.
