  • The bigger and more real problem is that you cannot shrink swapfiles. If you run out of swap space you can easily create and swapon another swapfile. If you run out of disk space and only 3 of 8 GB of swap is used, you can't shrink swapfile without switching it off completely. If you have 4 swapfiles by 2 GB you can swapoff and rm 2 of them to free disk space without any problem. Commented Dec 24, 2024 at 17:07
