Mar 1 at 20:33 comment added john75 Yes, there is an (empty) /etc/igfx_user_feature.txt file on my system; but even after deleting it, the behaviour remains the same! :-( The file did not belong to any package, I don't know who created it!
Mar 1 at 9:18 comment added Chester Gillon igfx_user_feature.txt found on the Intel media-driver GitHub project has an entry for creating a linux_perf_out.bin file, along with a Perf Profiler Enable entry. Is there a igfx_user_feature.txt file on your system?
Mar 1 at 9:07 comment added john75 I display the same video with vlc and mplayer - only with vlc the linux_perf_out.bin appears! There are also some other messages issued in both cases: libva info: VA-API version 1.20.0 libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_1_20 libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0 libva info: VA-API version 1.20.0 libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_1_20 libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0 ...
Mar 1 at 9:03 comment added john75 OK, maybe it is just Ubuntu, I don't know... and I would like to learn how to find out...
Mar 1 at 9:02 comment added Kusalananda I removed the linux tag that you recently added. If the question is relevant to all types of Linux, then add the tag and remove the ubuntu tag, but don't use both. If the question is only relevant to ubuntu, then don't use the linux tag.

Mar 1 at 8:50 comment added john75 I checked all the packages bearing "perf" in their names, the results are: gperf, perf-tools-unstable, performance-tools, python3-hyperframe and r-cran-performance
Mar 1 at 8:48 comment added john75 > can you check that with systemctl list-units | grep perf -> nothing is displayed, so I presume I don't have such service
Feb 27 at 11:08 comment added Marcus Müller that's an artifact from Intel's GPU driver development kit, I think?
