There are means of key protection beyond passphrases. ssh-agent can transparently handle those.ᄂ ᄀ– ᄂ ᄀ2023-08-08 21:19:07 +00:00Commented Aug 8, 2023 at 21:19

Could you please mention some of those methods? @ᄂᄀr0berts– r0berts2023-11-20 18:26:13 +00:00Commented Nov 20, 2023 at 18:26

1@r0berts Keys can be sealed using TPM. There are several libraries/tools for that. For Linux see Protecting SSH keys with TPM 2.0. For Windows check nCryptAgent or A Better Windows 10+WSL SSH Experience. For low-level details on TPM see the answers on TPM 2.0 PKCS#11 on Windows and Linux.ᄂ ᄀ– ᄂ ᄀ2023-11-21 08:22:49 +00:00Commented Nov 21, 2023 at 8:22

1@r0berts Another direction which opens more options as concerns key protection is to use SSH certificates. See If you’re not using SSH certificates you’re doing SSH wrong and tools like PuTTY CAC.ᄂ ᄀ– ᄂ ᄀ2023-11-21 08:26:24 +00:00Commented Nov 21, 2023 at 8:26

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. shell-script), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
