    @Spredzy it doesn't mount it in the sense that the linux kernel does. It accesses it yes, but 'mount' as youre thinking of it is reserved for an operating system that has to deal with concurrent access. Since grub is the only thing accessing the filesystem at the time it's a lot simpler. Commented Mar 29, 2013 at 13:46
