Nov 18, 2017 at 10:27 comment added MadHatter Thanks, A.B. Yours appears to be a sound solution, I'll try it and make you know. Also, I'll post my logs, for informative purpose.

Nov 17, 2017 at 14:29 comment added MadHatter Thanks. Yes, I authenticate with a keyfile. I think that since my homedir is encrypted, sshd cannot read its stored public keyfile prior to a physical login.
Nov 17, 2017 at 14:05 comment added David Favor Unsure what you mean by Passwordless Server. You've set, PasswordAuthentication no + PermitRootLogin prohibit-password, so it appears you'll have to login as non-root person, using a keyfile (so /etc/passwd + /etc/shadow will be ignored). Maybe you can clarify how you'd like to login + someone can assist you.
Nov 17, 2017 at 13:22 comment added MadHatter I didn't mention that my home is encrypted. I think this is my problem. Is there any workaround?
Nov 17, 2017 at 13:21 comment added MadHatter Thanks for your replies, I will include my logs next time I have access to the machine (I hope it will be today).
Nov 17, 2017 at 11:48 comment added Anthony Geoghegan As A.B points out, the SSH server logs will show much more information than verbosely running ssh. It would be useful to edit your questions to include the relevant entries from the SSH server logs (could also be /var/log/secure, depending on distribution). See the SSH tag help: unix.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/ssh
Nov 17, 2017 at 11:34 comment added thecarpy Can you add the output you get when you attempt to log in and the certificate is refused ? use ssh -vvv -p 1907 jdoe@myserver Also, is your home folder local or remote (NFS...) or maybe encrypted ?
