    Indeed, /dev/std{in,out,err} are specifically listed as not part of the POSIX.1-2008 standard. Commented Apr 13, 2012 at 23:05

  • @CMCDragonkai: That's not a /dev/stdout that can be handled by the shell, and what did you expect of initrd? It's missing most nicities in order to make it as small as practical. Commented Nov 1, 2016 at 16:04
