Haha, you are right. I use the SourceCodePro+Powerline+Awesome Regular patched font. Even with monospace fonts, _ looks cleaner even though it takes the same space as -. I should have used the word "apparently". Regarding the _ and - when using monospace fonts, the difference can be best explained with this analogical picture: evsc.net/v8/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/…

Hmmm, why are you reading your filenames in a variable-width font? Open up your terminal and - and _ take up just exactly the same space! :)
