Does this occur when booting the LiveCD, or a completed Handbook install?eyoung100– eyoung1002015-08-30 22:25:59 +00:00Commented Aug 30, 2015 at 22:25

It's an existing Gentoo build that we've been using on our older motherboard (a Jetway NF9D-2550). We're hoping to not have to go back to ground zero, but knowing what's failing would be critical to getting this done.Daniel Griscom– Daniel Griscom2015-08-31 06:22:14 +00:00Commented Aug 31, 2015 at 6:22

[long shot] Try updating the BIOS and resetting the BIOS configuration to the default, and changing only what you really need in your case.Rabin– Rabin2015-09-02 07:57:01 +00:00Commented Sep 2, 2015 at 7:57

1Before you continue down a rabbit hole, please boot the new Motherboard with a LiveCD, just boot, not build, and let us know if the system completely boots. The Hardware Detection used by the genkernel based kernel build will load the appropriate modules. As a hunch, I have a gut feeling that your kernel is missing some driver for something on your new board.eyoung100– eyoung1002015-09-02 19:31:33 +00:00Commented Sep 2, 2015 at 19:31

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. shell-script), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
