  • Running out of memory and letting the OOM killer do its job might be preferable. Is your system primarily a server or a workstation? If it's a server, I'd say: never swap. Anyway, I wish I could answer your question, but kernels beyond 2.4 are unknown to me. Commented May 15, 2015 at 2:35
