Time and Tides

Something has gone terribly awry on the face of Gaia. Just over three years has passed since the resolution of Final Fantasy IX. The four nations of the Mist Continent have all been painstakingly rebuilt, and the world as a whole is prospering under what promises to be an era of peace.

However, there was an advent three months ago. Overnight, towering ruins appeared near the city of Treno. Lindblum immediately sent soldiers to investigate, but no signs of life were found. What they did find was a plethora of alien technology and a single, charred metal plate reading 'Midgar'.  Regent Cid ordered that the technology be studied, and over the last three months, Lindblum has become a bustling hub of innovation, even more so than before. The kingdom has seen to the invention of mobile communication devices, computers, and personal transport vehicles which do not require steam or Mist to run.

Two months ago, Mist began rolling in in great waves, once again enveloping the Mist Continent. Sentries sent to the Outer, Forgotten, and Lost Continents also report that the Iifa Tree's roots are once again channeling Mist throughout the world. Alexandria, Lindblum, and Clerya remain unaffected, being above the Mist, and the eternal rain of Burmecia prevents the Mist from entering their kingdom.

But then, Inexplicably, the earth began to shake as a blinding light flooded the sky.

When the light faded, the entire face of the world had changed.

Countless cities, unpopulated just as Midgar had been, were scattered all over the four continents. Luca, Orbonne Monastery, Dollet, Mysidia, and countless other places were now sitting comfortably amid Gaia's landscape as though they had always been there.

More alarming than that were the people.

People began to appear across the Mist Continent as though dropped from the sky, disoriented and confused. They were all dressed in foreign clothes, bearing with them foreign customs, and all of them unfamiliar with the strange new world they found themselves in. These people became quickly known across Gaia as 'the people from the sky'.

At the same time, countless people native to Gaia have vanished. Some reappeared in cities far from where they were last seen, but many did not reappear at all.

Of the people recovered, Regent Cid and his researchers noticed that many of them suffered from varying degrees of memory loss. Some of them told wild and fantastical stories of places and events that almost sounded familiar, but the details were all amiss. The research is ongoing, and with every day more people turn up.

Here, our story begins...
