Aug 23, 2018 at 12:14 comment added Jack That's when you make the administrator do it, or answer to the client about why it isn't getting done. Turning people loose with SPD is, without a doubt, risky. However, so is turning the server on. Risks can and should be mitigated.
Aug 23, 2018 at 11:16 comment added MüdeFuchs Sadly, it is disabled by the administrator as it is too "risky"
Aug 22, 2018 at 10:14 comment added Jack @RomainCondat Not really? There's a lot you can do directly through the browser or by using sublime or notepad++ to create xsl templates. But workflows, external content types, data sources, etc have to be done through SharePoint Designer. SharePoint Designer is available free of charge from Microsoft and is approved by pretty much everyone, Unless your Site Collection Administrators have disabled Designer access?
Aug 21, 2018 at 9:22 comment added MüdeFuchs Any alternative than using SharePoint Designer? (in my case, we don't have access to it)

Oct 5, 2017 at 16:21 comment added Morten K Yeah I think I have found the culprit. I copied everything including the webpart ID from the original dispform. When i created a new ID it works!
Oct 5, 2017 at 9:48 comment added Jack So before you do that, navigate directly to the dispform.aspx file. All Files, Lists, Library or List Name, Forms. Then copy it off somewhere. I have folders stuffed full of notepad files where I've copied and pasted off dataviews. Honestly, its probably just sitting there and hiding from you in the other view.
Oct 4, 2017 at 19:10 comment added Morten K Right now I'm using SP Online. Once I copy the webpart from the "original" DispForm.aspx it is working as expected - so far so good (And thanks a lot). However once i mark the custom display form default the "original" one is removed - and I would like to keep the orginal one as a backup.

More details . . . and formatting
Oct 4, 2017 at 17:03 comment added Jack What version of SharePoint are you using? Also, you can't copy and paste that directly. I cut off 90% of the ListFormWebPart. Just in case you tried that one.
Oct 4, 2017 at 12:01 comment added Morten K Uhm I cant seem to get that to work - also it does have the unwanted effect of breaking the normal behaviour of the list form (E.g. groups not formattet correctly, new fields not showng up etc.)
