140. V6 Live Tour 2013 Oh! My! Goodness! Concert Report, 03.30.13, Osaka-jo Hall
Hokay I am going to do my best to remember what happened Saturday night but I make no promises as to the accuracy of this because I had a lot of emotions running through me and those can be kind of distracting. And oh yeah, pictures and everything will be in a separate entry when I get home and have the ability to post pictures again. I'm writing all of this on my iPad, so yeah, posting pictures is a pain. And you all deserve proper pictures of all the goods and of my fantastic seats and yeah. Or you could just check my tumblr for pictures of the latter, assuming you haven't already.
So our seats were in the C block on the arena floor, four seats over from the walkway. GAIJIN POWER! So we were kind of wigging out about that and just being there (and being there again for me) and yeah.
The show started promptly at 6:30 with the rather annoying "omg" intro from the album. "fAKE" kicked in and the screen opened up to reveal huge, light-up "V6" with the boys sitting on them in various poses. The dance for it was absolutely gorgeous and super smooth. The stage had moving floors and they moved around with and on those as they came down to the main stage level.
After that was their new song, "FLASH BACK." It definitely fits with the style of the album and the video for it was pretty neat. They'd jump at different points in the song and then the video would show them mid-jump and rotate back and forth. I have no idea why they didn't include it on the album, but whatevs. They're probably doing with this what they did with 'Supernova" on the last tour.
Next was "Hands Up! OK?" and had them going around the arena pumping everyone up.
Next, everyone sang "Darling" together and it's wonderful in concert and that's all I can say.
After that, they gathered around again to do "Bari Bari Buddy!" The dance is so cute in person. After that was a short MC where they were like "ahgldskjfs it's hot that whole set was really hard and now it's hot and we're sweaty. How are you guys? Are you hot? Are you sweating yet?" Go was just drenched in sweat, the poor thing. While Tonisen went to change for the next set, Kamisen had a quick MC and talked about Okada a lot. There's some joke about "hirapaa-onii-san" but I have to be honest: I just don't get it. If someone wants to explain it for other people, please do. I don't really care much but that's me.
Tonisen came back out all decked out in pink (and were like "yeah, we're all in pink for this one") and Kamisen went back to change. I really do not remember what Tonisen talked about; sorry, dudes. When Kamisen came back out, they did "大人 GUYZ" and there was a lot of moving around with the floors and the screens and it was basically just like the video. Everyone was dancing with shopping carts and then they all piled in, hooked themselves together, and had Okada push them down the walkway. Well, they tried. They kept kind of veering around and Nagano was trying to jump his cart to get them back on track (he was in front, see). They were also throwing out little balls to everyone and I came close to catching one but did not. Sadface.
After that they sang "愛を込めて" (the new one) on the back stage. It was really just the back part of the walkway but they did do a lot of the songs back there, which I very much appreciated, being in the back and all. The song is really sweet, as we all know, and sounds wonderful live.
With "親愛なる君へ," they were obviously precious and perfect, but at the end they each walked off after their part of the song finished, with Inocchi leaving last, and they had a VTR of them reading a letter to their beloved. I remember most of what it said but not well enough to really feel comfortable quoting it here for you all cos I don't want to risk being wrong so you guys can just wait for the DVD. They each read a few lines one by one with the words floating over their silhouetted faces. It was really simple but really well done.
After changing, they came back out to do "Sexy.Honey.Bunny!" in black suits looking fine as hell and Masa's "Sexy!" still reduces me to goo. I kept half-expecting streamers to burst from the ceiling halfway during the song since that's what happened on the last tour but nay. This time, it was just nice seeing them perform the song and yeah.
"BINGO" is great, guys. So good. They have a Vegas theme going with it (obviously) and the dance is just UUUGGGHH. So smooth. At the end they don fedoras and dance on chairs. There may have been some clawing at my face. They have a call and response during the "bing bing bing" part, and every time one of them is supposed to say "go," they each go up and say "go" into an old-timey mic suspended from the ceiling and do the stupidest voices they can because they are huge fucking spazzes.
At the end of "BINGO" is when they hold the drawing to see who gets to come up on stage during "Supernova." Cos what they do, see, is put a chair on the stage left side of the center stage and then the lucky girl gets to watch them do the song from there. I'll get more into that later but Saturday night a girl WITH MY SAME GODDAMN FUCKING TICKET NUMBER AND SEAT BLOCK GOT CALLED UP ON STAGE BUT IT WAS THE OPPOSITE SIDE FROM ME. So you'll forgive me for a lot of the rest of this but I was pretty fucking pissed and miffed and jealous and pretty much every negative emotion so a lot of things are a blur.
After they chose the girl for "Supernova," they do "D.I.S." which I just love a lot. It's super cute and that's about all I remember about it.
So the girl on Saturday night's name was Asami and she's a huge Inocchi fan. During the "gotta gotta having a good time" part, Go dances up to the girl and then escorts her to a chair in the center (which Nagano brings over) and the center stage rises up around the side like a donut and the girl and her favourite member are hidden from view while they strike a pose. Saturday night the girl got a piggyback ride from him, which, come on, cutest fucking thing ever. Collective "aww"s, y'all.
Then they do a little MC with the girl and ask her about herself and whom she likes and why and what she does and all that. Inocchi was hilarious. So every time they've practiced "Supernova," they've never practiced it with Inocchi getting picked, so he had no idea what he was supposed to be doing or when he was supposed to go up to the girl, so he was kind of dancing up toward her with Go and then realized he had screwed up and tried to play it off. Ken totally noticed and was giving him shit about it. Poor lil feller.
Pretty sure this was when the MC time was but I was pissed so I don't really remember. Anyway, during the MC, whenever that was, they talked about what they all did the night before. Okada went back to his place and watched the first TV airing of "SP." Inocchi asked if he watched it with their manager, since apparently their manager really likes Okada. Nagano went out to eat (of course) and just barely made it to the restaurant to which he wanted to go. Inocchi asked him what all he ate and how it was and stuff and Nagano was explaining it but then he was j just like, "I wrote about it in 'Kuruma de Gurume,' so just read about it there!" Inocchi was also giving him shit like, he should exploit his celebrity. Cos Nagano said he never makes a big deal about the fact that he's him. Inocchi is such a spazz. He was like, you could be all, "I'm V6's Nagano" and when you walk in they would be all like, "oh god he's here! He's here! Order up!". Go just went back to his room. I think Inocchi, Ken, and Masa went out for sushi.
Maa-kun mentioned that he was checking twitter last night to read the reports for the concert and was miffed that everyone was talking about Okada. Poor baby. Ken said he also checks twitter a lot. Ad then told everyone how Maa-kun reads these fashion websites and Maa-kun didn't see anything wrong with it but Ken thought it was weird.
There was more MC after this but I was kind of spacing. Inocchi and Nagano showed off some of the con goods and the special things you'll get if you buy the album at the venue. They made sure to stress that you can't get the photos, button, or postcards anywhere else so don't try to go to the Tsutaya or anywhere else and ask for them cos they won't give them to you. Inocchi was like, even if you tell them Nagano-kun said you could get them, they won't give them to you.
After this they brought out some of the stars and granted some wishes. I forget what a lot of them were. Masa's was to cheer on a girl who was going to start working at a company as if he were signing an aria, since he's a musical star. He totally overdid it and everyone gave him shit for it. Some other gaijin sitting on the other side of me were also from the US and asked Ken to say something in English and he was like, "hm, what to say ... 'You are stunning." Also this was when V6 acknowledged the gaijin contingent. They were asking the girls who got their wishes read if they could speak Japanese and if this was their first time coming to a V6 con but they weren't really responding. I don't know why. If you read this, white girls, please to respond.
After that they show another VTR, this time of them going around the con goods booths. They went up and wrote their own wishes on the star message paper and put them up on the board. Half of them wouldn't say what their wishes were, but Masa's was to make our dreams come true/grant our wishes BECAUSE HE IS MEAN AND CRUEL AND DELIGHTS IN THE PAIN THAT RESULTS FROM OUR ONE-SIDED LOVE FOR HIM. Inocchi wanted to kiss everyone in their dreams. Go wanted to see Inocchi's goodnight message, and so after that, that is what they played.
So every night, they show a video of Inocchi's pillow talk. So he flops into bed and is all precious and perfect and uncontrollably adorable. He also made his wish come true and gave us all a kiss via VTR. GODDAMMIT INOCCHI STOP BEING SO CUTE.
"Exotic Trip" was pretty great. They were all up on the top level of the stage and each had a mic. Every time they would sing a line, there would be like, a speaker effect behind them but with trippy colours. The whole background animation for that was, well, a trip. They also did a lot of dips and stuff with the mics. Well done, men.
Y'all know my love for "POISON PEACH," and v6 did not disappoint me. The dance starts with a whole lotta hip thrusting and I was like yes. They only did half the song but the background animation was super cool and they cut the song so that they all do the "1 (peach) 2 (peach)" etc and there's an animation behind them of all their faces. It makes more sense when you see it. Anyway, during the "君はpoison peach girl" part, they bring up the glow-in-the-dark strings from the floor and dance with them and wrap themselves in them and it's all very well done and satisfies my desire for more salacious V6.
"ROCK YOUR SOUL" is fantastic and used a whole lotta pyrotechnics. We could feel the heat from all the fire all the way back in the back. Pretty mega.
Pretty sure after this was "線香花火" and just ugh. UGH. Harmonies. Emotions, they had me feeling them (deeper than I'd ever dreamed of).
They all went back and changed and then came back out for "Maybe." Inocchi came out first and sat playing the guitar part the whole time. Bravo, Inocchi. Everyone else sang next to him and danced and were absolutely majestic.
Let's talk about "kEEP oN." Let's talk about how they performed all 6:06 of the song and how wonderful Inocchi's voice is. Okada had us sing half of his part. So good. Such a good experience. When Go and Ken came out for their rap part, the background animation thing was scrolling through baby pictures of them and UGGGGHHHHH SO FUCKING PRECIOUS. Every time any one of them would be singing through the first verse, they would show baby pictures and I CAN'T EVEN. The chorus was the best, with the sides of the screen having an animation of like, variegated circles and squares and stuff and "keep on trying" and "keep on dancing" and the middle showing videos of V6 from their debut era, their first concert, all of it. SO GOOD. SO. GOOD. I don't know if the audio crapped out or not, but Inocchi sang his last part of the song a capella.
The next song was everyone's favourite, "HONEY BEAT." They brought out the mics and did the furitsuke and everything. Happy fun times.
After that was "翼になれ" and they started going around the arena more again. I think this was when I got Go to wave at me? I forget. But he totally did and I think he might have recognized me from New York. Obviously can't be certain but at the very least he was surprised and all ":D" at me.
Late edit: WOW I TOTALLY FORGOT THEY DID "愛なんだ" I TOTALLY SUCK I AM SO SORRY.
Before "Music Life," Ken did a speech explaining how thankful they were for everyone because the only reason they're there at all is because of us, and so this song is about them and their life and they wanted to thank us and it basically made everyone feel all warm and fuzzy inside. They started the song from the back of the arena and made their way back to the front.
Ken is a brat and blew everyone a kiss goodbye before going down to change for the first encore. First encore began with my jam, "Spirit." SO fucking happy they brought that back for this tour. That song means a lot to me.
After this was "Good Day!!" and UGH FAVOURITE. They spent both encores just making their way around the arena and I think this was when Nagano waved at me? And Inocchi, too? I really do forget. I spent a lot of Saturday night distracted and trying to get noticed (it worked but still. Distracted).
"愛のMelody" was next and this was when I got a whole fucktonne of love from Okada. He basically danced in front of our row the whole time and when I gave him the peace sign to get him to acknowledge me, he gave me the peace sign back and THE FUCKING CUTEST, SHYEST LITTLE SMILE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE. He waved at us a lot and was really cute and sweet. I might even count myself among one of the Okada contingent now.
I completely lost my shit over the next song, because that song was サンダーバード." THE DANCE IS SO PERFECT. SEEING IT UP CLOSE IS UNREAL. I can't even express how happy I am they did that one.
The last song for the first encore was "UTAO-UTAO" and it was really sweet singing it along with everyone.
I'm preeeetty sure it was during this song that I finally got Sakamoto to notice me. I am kind of petulant and when I want something, I will do anything I can to get it, and I was determined to get his attention and get him to read my uchiwa and held it up as he was walking by and pointed at it. He stopped dead in his tracks and squinted at it to read it, totally not paying attention to anything else, and then smiled and went back to singing. On the way back down to the main stage, he was running by and waving at everyone and FUCKING STOPPED, LEANED ALL THE WAY FORWARD, TURNED TO LOOK ME DEAD IN THE EYE, GAVE ME A BEAUTIFUL, RADIANT SMILE, AND WAVED LIKE A SPAZZ. THANK YOU, MAA-KUN, YOU JUST MADE MY ENTIRE LIFE. I may have freaked the fuck out and hugged @kuukimitai too exuberantly.
They came back out really quick to do the second encore since everyone was cheering really loud and did ”本気がいっぱい."
I think it was after this encore that they were like, "we've reached our time limit for the concert and we're really sorry but you guys are the best and Osaka owns and thank you for getting all excited with us" and I forget what all each person said but Maa-kun's was definitely super sweet and thankful and he had the cutest little grin on his face and ugh. OH YEAH. During the first MC or whatever, they were talking about uchiwa and Inocchi commented on all the Okada ones for whatever fucking in-joke that is and Maa-kun was bitching that he didn't see any for himself and Inocchi was like "the hell dude there are a ton for you you're just not looking!" So yes. IF YOU EVER READ THIS, MASA HONEY, PLEASE TAKE ME UP ON MY OFFER OF GOING DRINKING OKAY? IT WILL BE FANTASTICAL.
During the break between the first and second encore I was talking with the ladies in front of me, one of whom was a really sweet, older Maa-kun fan from back in the day and so we said bye to them and headed back to to the place we were staying after the concert ended, trying our best to contain ourselves and remember how to breathe.
So that was Saturday's concert! I hope you enjoyed this report and that it was accurate enough to satisfy you and hold you over until we get our DVDs. I'll write up Sunday's on my next flight. Godspeed, fandom! I will endeavour to do my best to answer and any and all questions you may have.
