Fabric patterns usually do indicate how things are put together, they specify stitch types, notion placement and other details. Come to think of it, since the choice of fabrics and colors etc is left to the tailor, fabric patterns pretty much describe exclusively how to put a garment together. Might wanna pick a different analogy.
