Im not sure OO is particualry better for GUI, more that OO and GUIs emerged about the same time. +1 for the McCarthy/javascript though ;)

To be fair, some people do suggest the existing approaches are flawed and could be replaced by something else. I don't know if I would call that "expanding" or rather "improving" the toolbox :)
