    You've floated a lot of possible theories here, but does this answer the question that was asked, in a way that is actionable? For example, you state that "serving identity functions" is a way to solve the problem. What would that look like, exactly? How would that work, and how might I implement it?   • If the principal question is "How does this model handle relational data that may span more than one service?" then the answer is making the services handle IDs and references. I may have gotten a bit wordy, but this is the gist of it. Without immutable IDs and promises, the application is going to be kind of horrible to build. Commented Apr 19, 2015 at 17:57
