You can change the settings regarding PHP execution time limits, which would solve the time out issues. This question may be more suited to StackOverflow though as it's bordering on specific implementation details.Fergus In London– Fergus In London2014-05-09 04:55:43 +00:00Commented May 9, 2014 at 4:55

You could insert all data into a new temp table, add all old values whose id isnt in the temp table to it (with sql), then delete the real table and switch in the temp table (in a transaction of course). I would imagine this is way faster than doing 40k selects, looking at the result and do update/insert for each oneFlo– Flo2014-05-09 06:28:40 +00:00Commented May 9, 2014 at 6:28

Have you considered using ETL tools like pentaho data integration or talend open studio (both are free)? You can do it in 5 minutes and they also do other useful stuff too. 40k rows is not big-data.imel96– imel962014-05-25 15:54:38 +00:00Commented May 25, 2014 at 15:54

Hi @imel96 : please see as to how i have done. I have answered my question. Also since I do not have access to change anything in the production server, I cannot use these tools and stick to convectional techniques. Will check it out in the future.Advait– Advait2014-05-26 23:51:57 +00:00Commented May 26, 2014 at 23:51

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. design-patterns), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
