COLD OPEN | My Favorite Sesame Street Moments Ruben Studdard talks about "Rubber Duckie." |
SCENE | Big Bird and Rosita discuss how she is going to sing "The Alphabet Song" with the Birdketeers later today before welcoming the viewer in English and Spanish. Just then, two lost Anything Muppet kids walk by and ask for directions to the park. Rosita tells them it's easy to find - just look for the statue with the pigeons. The kids give her confused looks and aren't sure what she said. Big Bird clarifies and the kids laugh it off, noting how Rosita pronounces the word "pigeons." Rosita feels hurt that they made fun of her Mexican accent and wishes she could talk "normal." |
SCENE cont'd | A dignified hog named Henry Piggins comes along, overhearing her wish and thinks he can help. He sings "The Pig is Big" to help her pronounce words in an English accent, with little success. Rosita thinks she'll never speak like everyone else, but Big Bird says he likes her voice. Despite this, Rosita still thinks it's different and decides to never speak again. |
SCENE cont'd | The Birdketeers arrive and Big Bird breaks the bad news to them that Rosita isn't going to sing with them. Despite them all appreciating her voice, she still remains silent. Big Bird thinks that if they sing it anyway she'll join in, but it doesn't work and Rosita runs off. |
SCENE cont'd | Big Bird catches up with Rosita at the stoop with Gabi and Miles. Big Bird tells them about Rosita's dilemma, and Miles and Gabi tell her that not only should she be proud of speaking two languages, but everybody on Sesame Street has different ways of talking. They and Big Bird sing how all those different voices and accents are the "Music of the Street," while the various citizens (including the Count, the Martians, a Honker, a Dinger, and a duck) show up to demonstrate. Oscar pops out of his trash can to point out that it doesn't matter how Rosita speaks - she'll be just as annoying to him as everyone else. Rosita goes back to speaking and thanks Oscar for his "compliment" and feels better about sounding different. |
SCENE cont'd | The two kids from before come back and find Rosita, telling her they really like hearing how she talks. They are even more impressed when they learn she can speak two languages, and ask to be taught some Spanish words. Rosita is touched and teaches them the word "palomas" - the Spanish word for "pigeons!" |
