SCENE 1 | After taking roll at the day care center, Gina tells Baby Bear, Zoe, Lily, Ashley, and Malcolm that today they have a special guest. Stinky, who is visiting today, is surprised to find out that he is whom she's talking about as he can teach everything he knows about plants. Stinky isn't sure how to go about it, but Gina says that everyone can ask him questions and he will try to answer them. Baby Bear starts it off: “What is it like being a plant?” Stinky's response ("It's alright.") doesn't suffice, but he gets excited when Zoe wonders how plants grow. He wants to show them rather than explain, and whispers to Gina the supplies he'll need to do so. |

He needs two important things: sunlight and water. First, Stinky gets his light from a sunlamp provided by his "lovely assistant" Gina, and shows how some plants like himself can move toward the light source (almost falling off the table as he does so). Next, Stinky has Gina pour water on him from her watering can. Stinky concentrates, and with a drum flourish he grows a small blue flower from his head! Everyone claps and cheers for the Great Stinkini's amazing trick as well as for the water and light. |

Stinky explains that he was once very small, and asks Gina to look inside his dirt for his baby pictures: "What do you expect me to do, schlep around a pocketbook?" The first picture is of him as a tiny but cute seed. The next picture is of Stinky's "planting day," where he is put into the soil. He recalls a little girl named Mabel had done so for him, and they still write to each other. His family was also present (his Aunt Ivy and his Cousin Fern). Stinky then shows what he looked like as a little sprout, where he begins to look more how he does today. |
