Timeline for why are we not encouraging posting answers as an answer but not via comments?

It's bad to encourage the former, but the latter sometimes deserves some guidance, even if the question itself is of little interest to others and should be removed. I agree with you that posting answers in comments should not be done in cases where regular answers are in order, but I don't see the problem with someone providing a quick hint in a comment and someone else elaborating that hint in an answer. The comment itself may be removed afterwards, especially if it is misleading or obsolete. | |

("I know this isn't supposed to be allowed, but I get what I want when I do it, so I'll keep it up.") | |
