GitHub Actions — Good Practices
As CI/CD platforms go, I wouldn’t say GitHub Actions is the greatest, it just seems to me to be the most prevalent these days. Kind of like Helm with respect to packaging Kubernetes resources, but that’s a completely different blog post that I might write another day.
There are several patterns that I have accumulated in my time with GitHub Actions (GHA) that I think are worthwhile habits to establish. I won’t call them best practices — that seems way too egotistical — I’ll just call them good practices, so here they are in no particular order:
…Christmas Movies (2024)
My partner and I tend to watch a fair few Christmas movies over the holiday break. We have some pretty reliable regulars in the rotation, some genuinely good stuff, and some enjoyable guilty pleasure trash. It’s always fun finding something new, as well!
I try to log my viewing habits over at Letterboxd, and I even have a special tag in the diary there, just for Christmas movies.
Then there is, of course, the time-honoured tradition of rewatching the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I wouldn’t say I’ve done this every single year since it came out, but probably around about as many as not. The 4K Blu-ray box set I have on deck these days is sublime.
