❦ Diary Entry 0005 | voice

Hey. [graceful beginning = is a go] Other people here keep track of the date, right? I mean, not the actual date [having no start point kind of shoots that plan in the foot] but how many days you've been here?

[she has her own method set up, but it's getting a little unwieldy.] I'd like to hear about how you do it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I keep a blank book and fold the corner of a page for every day that passes. [...] Well, sometimes. If you keep up with it it's an excellent method of day-tracking, but I don't prioritize it so I'm likely several days off by this point.

[or like an entire week or two, maybe more... he doesn't really care much about keeping track of time on a normal day, let alone in a situation where he has to put effort forth to do it.]

I could get another book, yes. I could also start folding the bottom corners once I reach the last page and then fold the entire page in half once all of the corners have been used. Since the current book I have is about three hundred and fifty pages, that alone would last me almost three years. [a wry laugh]

Though I certainly hope I won't be here long enough to make use of the entire thing.

Not a problem. [aw yeah good deed for the month now complete.

he isn't used to people actively striking up small talk though, so there's a brief pause before he continues.]
Fair enough. We've been running a bit low on the supplies retrieved when the city changed so that's a bit of a nuisance, but it's still doable. ...What of yourself?

[this voice sounds familiar! replying lightly and cheerfully, then.]

I think we've spoken about the first one before, haven't we? As for that, hmm... Meeting and talking with people helps, so is doing small chores like keeping things orderly and cooking when I can! Especially the latter. It's the biggest perk of this place, in my opinion.

You mean there's people who haven't just given up on that?

[ If Ange was a little better at emoting, that might have sounded a little surprised.. but for now it just sounds like deadpan much like everything else she says. She gave up on it a long time ago, she just thinks "about half a year" sounds good enough by now.. it feels like that, either way. ]

It isn't as difficult as you'd imagine if you take advantage of your phone's voicemail. What I do is record a new greeting every day where I state how many days it's currently been since I've arrived in town, followed by the usual pleasantries.

[it isn't the most elegant way of keeping track of things, he'll admit, but you can only do so much in a situation like this.]

[Huh, this girl sounds a little familiar]

Can't you write down the number of days you've been here?

can't believe i counted the days from the game starting

248 days.

[It sounds horrible when laid out that way, such a long time, but he was at least pleased with managing to keep track.]

I take pebbles. I put a new one in one of the classrooms of the elementary school every day, then I know how many days have passed.
