Description

Placeholder project page. Currently, I am testing using an Arduino Mega board to interface with the VFD, and an ESP8266 to control it.

For an example of interfacing with this VFD, take a look at my other project: a port of Bad Apple!! to this display.

Nice! Always liked the glow of VFDs. Looking forward to seeing links to the driving software. Does that panel generate all the voltages required, as opposed to say this one? https://www.ebay.com/itm/128-32-VFD-Screen-Panel-SCM-Vacuum-Fluorescent-Display-Graphical-Dot-Matrix-Chip/273083073717

Yes, just give it 5 volts (at several hundred mA...) and hook up the control lines - it uses an oldschool parallel bus. Not my repo but there is interface info here: https://github.com/cawapy/GU20X8/blob/master/gu20x8.md

I always liked the two-color VFDs. Looks like you could make a decent game of Space Invaders on that.
