Hi, no, no line numbers. the error message is literally the caps lock msg (INFADI etc). however, on the BND error it gave a traceback on the arcpy.GALayerToGrid_ga-expressionsuserNOR– userNOR2013-10-07 18:34:16 +00:00Commented Oct 7, 2013 at 18:34

1Three suggestions - two could be related. First, I'd dump the import of arcgisscripting - it's included as part of arcpy. Second, the first line of your try block checks if the file exists, but doesn't do anything with that information, so the check doesn't help the program. You should try an "if not arcpy.Exists(infile): {do something here to handle that}. Lastly, try making your exception handling more robust with the traceback module. It might give you a better pointer to where this issue is coming from.nicksan– nicksan2013-10-09 03:39:12 +00:00Commented Oct 9, 2013 at 3:39

Hi, thanks for your suggestions. I'll try the first and the third. as for the second one, I left it in because of a suggestion in the first blogpost here: pythongisandstuff.wordpress.com that said it might force a file refresh which would avoid randomly thrown errors. but might as well remove it again, since it didn't help me much.userNOR– userNOR2013-10-09 14:55:03 +00:00Commented Oct 9, 2013 at 14:55

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. arcgis-desktop), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
