Still happily living in Salem, Oregon.
what is john up to these days?
I’m a little over three months into working at Natera — I got hired as a Staff Software Engineer, but about a month into that role, I ended up becoming an Engineering Manager. Still trying to get my head wrapped around just what that means, but overall things seem to be going okay. I remain happy to be working with an ever-increasing number of people I’ve worked with in past roles — if you happen to be somebody I’ve worked with in the past, and if there are any open roles that look interesting to you, I’m happy to provide referrals. We’re doing cool stuff that actually helps people, which feels good.
Still really not enjoying that my country is back in an “interesting times” phase. I’m not a fan of murderers or bullies, so you can imagine how I feel about murderous bullies in particular.
Still doing weeknotes over at genehack.blog, along with some other bloggery every now and then.
The whole “start a new job” thing is kind of consuming most of my time and brain capacity, so my side projects have all sort of quiesced for the moment. I have been trying to spent a bit more time reading, and that’s mostly been successful, which is a small spark of joy.
