Secret Fannish Identity

ETA 9/26/19: WELL everything in this post was written in like 2016 and is horrendously out of date, mostly because I, uh, don't use dreamwidth too much anymore? I'm always hoping I'll be back someday, but your best bet these days to find me on twitter, where I'm fiercynonym!

Hi! I'm Deepa, a 27-year-old queer first-gen Indian-American/desi feminist environmentalist geek-nerd-fan, originally from Seattle, WA, USA, now living in New York City. I've been in fandom since I was thirteen under different names in different places, but for the past few years I've gone pretty consistently by "fiercynn" in everything I do and on all the sites I frequent: LJ, DW, AO3, delicious, Tumblr, Twitter, etc. I'm mostly on Twitter at the moment, actually.

I'm...sort of fandom-drifting at the moment? That is, I'm watching a lot of tv that I want to talk about and watch vids for, including Scrotal Recall/Lovesick, Pretty Little Liars, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, Supergirl, DC Legends of Tomorrow, Jane the Virgin, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Agent Carter, Orphan Black, Galavant, Quantico, How to Get Away with Murder, Fresh Off The Boat, and the Flash, but I'm not terribly active in any of the fandoms; and Merlin will probably be my forever fandom, but I'm not active at all in it right now, because also why. In chronological order, the past fandoms that I've considered myself at least somewhat involved in: Harry Potter (Marauders), DC Universe, Smallville, Supernatural & CW RPF, House, Doctor Who & Torchwood, The History Boys, Merlin, Star Trek (TOS, DS9, and AOS), Inception, and due South.

Other media that I’m particularly fond of: all things Tolkien, Avatar: The Last Airbender,Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Community, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Jane the Virgin, Fresh Off The Boat, Downton Abbey, How to Get Away with Murder, Yes Minister, Jeeves & Wooster, Slings & Arrows, Band of Brothers, Foyle's War, The Middleman, The West Wing, some parts of the MCU. Oh, and about a billion YA fantasy books, most importantly Tamora Pierce's Tortall books, Patricia C. Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles, William Nicholson's Wind on Fire trilogy, Pat O'Shea's The Hounds of the Morrigan, Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson books, and EVERYTHING EVER by Diana Wynne Jones.

As far as my fandom involvement, mostly I read and write. I’ve recorded some podfic and I really enjoy it, so hopefully I’ll do more of that. I have collaborated on two vids with scribe and made a few other vids myself.

RL stuff: I used to work as a political community organizer, for a national campaign in 2012 and for an environmental profit from 2013-2014. I'm currently in grad school for environmental policy.


fanworks

So I've finally put up everything I've made on AO3, including podfics and vids! Most of it is still fic, of course. It's a little annoying to search at the moment because unfortunately the tags for the multifandom vids I've collaborated on have skewed the number of fandoms listed on my dashboard, sigh.

Here's my fic - I've mainly written Merlin and The History Boys, with the rest of my stuff scattered through a wide range of fandoms including Jane the Virgin, Castle, Star Trek: AOS, Supernatural, etc.

I've recorded a few podfics too, and I'm hoping to do more in the future.

I used to be super-proud of my delicious bookmarks, but we all know what happened with delicious, SIGH.

I'm currently in the process of trying to get a lot of them over to my AO3 bookmarks (including links external to AO3), but it's a slow process and mostly skewed towards stuff I've read recently. Those 677 Merlin bookmarks on delicious are going to take a while, let me tell you, especially since I think a lot of the links are broken.

In the meantime, my all time favorite fanworks are in my AO3 bookmarks, and that's the category most likely to be updated soon even with older fanworks.

I give blanket permissions for my fanworks to be used, remixed, shared, or referenced in pretty much any way as long as it is not for monetary gain! All I ask is that you let me know so that I can enjoy whatever you create out of it as well. Honestly I'm super flattered if anyone wants to do anything with something I've made, so don't be shy.
