Mizmak (AKA Alex MacKenzie; Alexandra MacKenzie, Alexfandra) has been in various fandoms since the late 1980s, including Blake's 7, The Professionals, and Highlander. She published Professionals zines, and was a member of the Media Cannibals vidding collective in the mid-to-late 1990s. In 2019 Good Omens became her sole fandom. She has loved the story since reading the novel in 1990, and the TV series sparked an enormous amount of fanfic and art.
Mizmak has a traditionally published novel titled "Immortal Quest: The Trouble with Mages" (Edge SF, Canada,2010). It is a slashy, humorous fantasy novel. She is also a trained scientific illustrator and has illustrated several books of natural history essays. She lives in the Pacific Northwest (US).
Contributions To The Professionals Fandom
Mizmak wrote Blake's 7 fanfic starting in 1989. In the early 1990s, after joining Virgule-L she became a crazed fan of The Professionals. She pimped Pros non-stop, typing in stories from the circuit library so they'd be easier to send to new online fans—the baby beginnings of what became the The Professionals Circuit Archive. She wrote Pros fanfic, and published Pros zines, some illustrated by her own Bodie and Doyle art. (Some of her Professionals stories can be found here, others in the The Professionals Circuit Archive.) She also vidded The Professionals as a member of the Media Cannibals.
She was the publisher of Deathless Pros Press (1994-1996) which produced Pros fanzines including the story collections Truth to Tell and Close Quarters, and the novels Tea for Two, Summer's End, and Aftermath.
Other Fandom Contributions
In the mid-'90s, she fell hard into Highlander, and made many Highlander vids, as well as a few Buffy (Spike) vids, one RayK due South vid and one Queer as Folk UK vid, before taking a break from fannish activities in the early 2000s.
In 2019 she returned to fandom with Good Omens, a book she first read and loved in 1990. The TV series sparked a massive resurgence of fannish activity, and she has written over a million words of fanfic (on AO3, as "mizmak") and created dozens of art works.
Non Fandom Activities
Mizmak became a professionally published novelist in 2010 with the publication of "Immortal Quest: The Trouble with Mages" (Edge SF, Canada, paperback out of print; still available as an ebook). The novel is slashy, and the two main characters were "inspired" by Bodie and Doyle of The Professionals. Her second novel, "Seattle Sleuth" (historical mystery, not slashy) was published in 2012 (Rhemalda Publishing, now out of print and the Audible edition SUCKS, please do not get it!). She is also the illustrator for the nonfiction book of nature essays, "In My Nature: A Birder's Year at the Montlake Fill" (author: Constance Sidles), published in 2009.
