[′lȯr·ik ′as·əd]
(organic chemistry)
CH3(CH2)10COOH A fatty acid melting at 44°C, boiling at 225°C (100 mmHg; 13,332 pascals); colorless needles soluble in alcohol and ether, insoluble in water; found as the glyceride in vegetable fats, such as coconut and laurel oils; used for wetting agents, in cosmetics, soaps, resins, and insecticides, and as a chemical intermediate.

Thirty-six male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups (with nine rats in each): the control group, positive control group (inject of sodium laurate into the femoral artery of the lower extremity to make TAO model), negative control group (inject of saline solution into the femoral artery of the lower extremity), and TAO and LA group.
In comparison, both FAEE combinations of all 9 and 7 FAEE (excluding ethyl laurate and myristate) at [greater than or equal to]2 nmol/g demonstrated lower agreement with self-reported PAE than individual FAEE markers or the summation of 4 FAEE (ethyl myristate, palmitate, oleate, and stearate) [greater than or equal to]200 ng/g.
Different grades of span such as sorbitan laurate, sorbitan monopalmitate, sorbitan monostearate, and sorbitan oleate in different molar ratios of surfactant: CHOL: DCP as 2.5:1: 0.1, 2:1: 0.1, 1.5:1: 0.1, 1:1: 0.1, and 1:1.5: 0.1 (total weight of lipid mixture kept constant as 100 mg) were used.
The reaction mixture with addition of potassium laurate (17.9 mg in 1 mL water) as catalyst, was under permanent stirring exposed to microwave heating for 1 to 5 min, using a modified domestic microwave oven SENCOR SMW 2220 (2.45 GHz) at microwave power 140 W or 550 W, whereby the temperature increased from room to reaction temperatures (70-110 [degrees] C).

MWNTs were dispersed in BADCy via an ultrasonicator for 30 min at 100[degrees]C, and then dibutyltin laurate (200 ppm) used as curing catalyst was added to the suspension, subsequently, the system was moved immediately to an oil-bath and reacted for 40 min at 140[degrees]C.
